Spain: Retail sales growth wanes in August
Retail sales increased 7.0% year on year in August (July: +7.7% yoy). The reading was partly due to a deterioration in large chain stores sales. In contrast, single retail stores sales improved.
On a seasonally and calendar adjusted monthly basis, retail sales rose at a faster rate of 0.4% in August (July: +0.3% mom). Meanwhile, annual average retail sales growth rose to 4.9% in August (July: +4.4%), signaling an improving trend in the retail trade sector.
