Spain: Housing permits increase in February
The Spanish Board of Architects approved 7,818 new construction permits in February, according to data published by the Ministry of Public Works. The figure was below the 9,155 permits granted in February 2020 but above the 7,362 permits granted in January 2021. On an annual basis, permits declined 14.6%, following January’s 12.1% fall.
Meanwhile, the moving three-month sum of permits totaled 22,239 in February, which represented a 13.1% drop from the same period of 2020 and contrasted the 0.4% increase recorded in January. The current number of permits represents a mere fraction of the 268,266 permits granted during the July–September 2006 peak amid a booming housing market in the leadup to the global financial crisis.
