Peru: Economic activity growth gains steam in August
Economic activity grew 1.7% year on year in August (July: +1.4% yoy). Looking at the details of the release, the commerce sector slowed in August, while the agricultural sector accelerated. Lastly, activity in the manufacturing sector decreased at a sharper rate, while mining and hydrocarbons output decreased at a softer pace than in July.
On a monthly basis, economic activity rose 0.1% in August, which was below July’s 0.2% uptick and marking the worst result since February 2021. Meanwhile, annual average economic activity growth fell to 3.6% in August (July: +4.5%), pointing to a worsening trend.
