Mexico Consumer Confidence July 2019

Mexico: Consumer confidence falls in July

Consumer confidence fell for the fifth consecutive month in July, with the seasonally-adjusted consumer confidence index published by the Statistical Institute (INEGI) coming in at 104.3 points, down from 106.0 points in June. Despite the dip, the indicator remained comfortably above the 100-point threshold and signaled optimism.

July’s decline reflected a deterioration across all five components of the index. Consumers’ assessment over the general economic situation in the year ahead and willingness to buy big-ticket items worsened noticeably from June. They also turned less confident about both the current state of the economy and their current financial situation. Lastly, households’ expectations over their future financial situation worsened, albeit marginally.
