Malaysia: Inflation continues to rise in March

April 17, 2013

In March, consumer prices rose 0.09% over the previous month, which was below the 0.19% increase recorded in February. The result mainly reflects higher prices for transport as well as for clothing and footwear.

As a result of the monthly price rise, inflation inched up from 1.5% in February to 1.6% in March, which was in line with market expectations. That said, annual average inflation remained unchanged at February's 1.5%.

FocusEconomics panellists expect inflation to accelerate in the months ahead and average 2.4% in 2013, which is unchanged from last month's projection. For 2014, the panel sees inflation rising further to 2.8%.
