Korea: Manufacturing PMI largely unchanged in October
The S&P Global Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) came in at 49.8 in October, largely unchanged from September’s 49.9. As a result, the index fell further below the 50.0 no-change threshold, signaling a sharper deterioration in manufacturing sector operating conditions compared to the previous month.
Output and new orders fell at softer rates, while employment continued to rise, keeping the PMI close to the 50.0 no-change threshold; the index has been below the threshold for 16 months. However, input inflation sped up, and output charges were hiked for the second month in a row. Finally, business sentiment strengthened in the month.
