Kenya: Inflation rises in July
Consumer prices increased a seasonally-adjusted 0.20% in July over the previous month, picking up from the 0.12% rise seen in June. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages fell in July, while prices for housing, utilities and fuel grew. Meanwhile, transportation prices rose at a softer pace.
Inflation came in at 6.4% in July, up from June’s 6.3%. July’s reading represented the highest inflation rate since February 2020. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 5.5% in July (June: 5.3%).
