Italy: Inflation remains stable in August
September 14, 2015
Consumer prices rose 0.2% in August over the previous month, which was in line with market expectations and the preliminary estimate released by the National Statistical Institute on 31 August. August’s print contrasted the 0.1% fall tallied in July. The increase mainly reflected higher prices for services related to transport and communication, which more than offset a decrease of non-regulated energy products. Inflation remained stable at July’s 0.2%.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories, such as unprocessed food and energy, grew 0.3% in August over the previous month, mirroring July’s result. Core inflation inched down from July’s 0.8% to 0.7% in August. Finally, harmonized inflation came in at 0.5% in August, which was above July’s 0.3% result.
