France: Inflation eases in July
Consumer prices rose 0.06% over the previous month in July, down from June’s 0.13% increase. The print came on the back of a drop in clothing and footwear prices amid seasonal discounts, and a decline in tobacco prices. This offset a marked uptick in energy prices on the back of pricier petroleum products; higher oil prices also drove a steep uptick in transport prices.
Harmonized inflation came in at 1.5% in July, down from June’s 1.9%. Annual average harmonized inflation edged up to 0.9% in July, from 0.8% in June. Lastly, consumer price inflation eased to 1.2% in July from 1.5% in June.
