France: Industrial output rebounds in February

In February, industrial output increased 0.72% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms, which contrasted the 0.82% fall tallied in January. The expansion came in above market expectations of a 0.20% rise, and was mainly the result of increases both in manufacturing and construction.
On an annual basis, industrial activity contracted 2.5% in February, which represented an improvement over the 3.6% drop observed in January. Accordingly, the trend now points upwards, as annual average variation in industrial production inched up from minus 2.8% in January to minus 2.7% in February.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panellists see industrial production dropping 0.5% in 2013, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month's forecast. For next year, panellists expect an expansion of 1.3%.
