France: Consumer confidence falls to eight-month low in January
Consumer confidence deteriorated in the first month of the new year and came in at 92 in January, down from December 2020’s 95 and marking the worst reading since May last year. As a result, the index remained below the 100-threshold, its long-term average.
In January, consumers’ assessment of both their future personal financial situation and their expected standard of living in the coming twelve months turned more pessimistic. Moreover, households’ fears about unemployment rose notably from the previous month, while their willingness to purchase large-ticket items also deteriorated.
