France: Business confidence deteriorates in October, falling further below long-term average
Business confidence fell to 93 in October from September’s 94. As a result, the index fell further below the 100-threshold, which represents its long-term average.
With regard to demand, manufacturers’ perceptions of both new overall orders and new export orders turned more pessimistic in October, likely reflecting rising concerns over the surging number of new Covid-19 cases. Moreover, firms’ personal and general production expectations deteriorated markedly from the previous month. In terms of staffing, employment intentions improved somewhat from September, although they remained pessimistic.
