Finland: Current account deficit increases in April
The current account recorded a EUR 1.7 billion deficit in April, deteriorating from the EUR 0.6 billion deficit posted in March (April 2022: EUR 4.1 billion deficit). Meanwhile, in the 12 months leading up to April, the current account posted a EUR 6.9 billion deficit, compared to the EUR 9.3 billion deficit booked in March.
The merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a EUR 1.2 billion surplus in April (March 2023: EUR 0.8 billion surplus). Merchandise exports fell 0.3% over the same month last year in April (March: +11.1% year-on-year). Meanwhile, merchandise imports slid 21.2% over the same month last year in April (March: -9.4% yoy), marking the weakest result since May 2020.
