Czech Republic: Industrial production rebounds in August

October 7, 2016

Industrial production grew 13.1% year-on-year in August, which sharply contrasted the 14.1% fall registered in July and was the best result since May 2011. The reading mainly reflected increases in the manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and of rubber and plastic products. In contrast, manufacturing of pharmaceutical products and of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning decreased.

A month-on-month comparison showed that industrial output increased 12.1% in seasonally-adjusted terms in August. This was the best result on record and contrasted July’s revised 9.9% drop (previously reported: -9.7% month-on-month). August’s strong year-on-year growth substantially improved the 12-month trend, with annual average growth in industrial production expanding from 2.6% in July to 3.1% in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 3.6% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect industrial output to expand 4.1%.
