Belgium: Industrial production increases in February

Belgian industrial production in February rose a seasonally adjusted 3.7%, contrasting January’s revised 4.6% fall (previously reported: -4.9% month-on-month). The increase was driven by significant expansions in the mining and quarrying and manufacturing sub-sectors, contrasting the decline observed in the gas, steam and air conditioning supply sub-sector.

In annual terms, industrial production grew 2.0% in February, down from January’s revised 3.1% (previously reported: 3.0%). Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production dipped from 4.7% in January to 4.2% in February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial output to expand 2.4% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees industrial production growth slowing to 2.2%.
