Austria: Manufacturing PMI stable in November
The S&P Global Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) was unchanged at October’s 15-month low of 46.6 in November. As such, the index remained below the 50.0 no-change threshold, signaling a continued deterioration in manufacturing sector operating conditions from the previous month.
The overall result reflected sustained contraction in inflows of new orders, although the rate of decline eased from October’s over two-year high. This came as inflation, weak sentiment among clients and downbeat investment environment all hurt demand for manufactured goods. More positively, input inflation eased to a near two-year low in November, while employment levels continued to rise. Lastly, business confidence improved from the previous month, but remained generally downbeat.
