Argentina: Merchandise exports contract in September
Merchandise exports declined 2.2% annually in September (August: -6.9% year-on-year). Meanwhile, merchandise imports climbed 18.8% on an annual basis in September (August: +36.2% yoy), marking the weakest reading since February 2021.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 0.4 billion surplus in September (August 2022: USD 0.3 billion deficit; September 2021: USD 1.7 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 5.0 billion surplus in September, compared to the USD 6.3 billion surplus in August.
