GDP in Nicaragua
Nicaragua - GDPNicaragua’s economy ended 2016 in fairly good shape, and is likely to have been one of Central America’s stronger performers last year thanks to a broad-based economic expansion. Agriculture was a major driver of growth in the year to September thanks to favorable weather conditions, while commercial activity grew due to strong domestic demand and the manufacturing sector recovered somewhat, in part thanks to the performance of the enterprise zones (zonas francas). Remittances, another important component of the economy, also rose in the year to November due to the strong performance of the U.S. labor market. Evidencing the stable economic situation, Fitch Ratings and Standard and Poor’s recently confirmed their credit ratings for the country.
