GDP in Nicaragua
Nicaragua - GDPNicaragua’s economy ended 2016 on a fairly positive footing, with economic activity in December expanding at a healthy rate thanks to a strong showing from the agriculture and hotels and restaurants sectors. Over last year as a whole, agriculture performed well thanks to supportive climatic conditions, while commercial activity also grew as a result of lively internal demand, which was stoked by rising real wages and employment, two tendencies which continued unabated throughout last year and into the start of 2017. Remittances, another key component of the economy, compounded the strong rise seen over the course of 2016 with a 12% year-on-year surge in January of this year, likely boosted by stronger inflows from the U.S. and Costa Rica.
