GDP in Lebanon
Lebanon - GDPGood news is on the horizon for the battered economy, as the state budget is expected to be approved in July. The country will have its first budget since 2005 thanks to the parliament approving and ratifying a new electoral law on 16 June based on proportional representation to replace the old winner-takes-all system. The approval averted a new political crisis and paved the way for the country to hold the first election in nine years in May 2018. Attention will also now shift to approving and ratifying the new proposed salary scale for the public sector. Even though the proposal incorporates a salary hike, it has been met with negative backlash and protests as the increase in salaries is to be funded through extra taxation.
