GDP in Laos
Laos - GDPLaos’ economy is sailing smoothly on the back of robust foreign investment, improved weather conditions and strong regional growth. However, the government is facing severe fiscal distress as tax collection is trailing behind when compared to the budget plans. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Somdy Douangdy stated on 15 August that the fiscal gap could reach 6.5% of GDP this year. In the political arena, tensions with Cambodia flared up after Laotian troops crossed into the neighboring country and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a six-day ultimatum on 11 August to Laos stating that the country must pull its troops out of Cambodia or risk a military response. The spat came to an end on 12 August with the withdrawal of the Laotian troops.
