GDP in Laos
Laos - GDPIn 2016, Laos’ economy likely maintained the strong pace of growth recorded in past years and the country is expected to have been one of the strongest performers in the region. The government has been pursuing exporting energy as a strategy for economic growth and opened a number of large hydropower plants in 2016. Adding to the good news, gold output rose by 15% in H1 2016 and better weather allowed for higher agricultural output last year. On 25 December, construction of the USD 5.8 billion China-Laos railway officially started. The railway will be part of a rail route connecting China to Singapore via Laos, Thailand and Malaysia and it will take five years to complete.
