Laos - GDP

On 18 November, Laos’ National Assembly approved a series of economic and budgetary targets. According to the Assembly’s projections, GDP growth will be 7% for 2017 and 2018, and it is expected to accelerate further in 2019 and 2020. Government revenues and expenditures each year are set to be USD 13 billion and 18 billion, respectively, for the 2017-2020 period. During this period, the deficit should not exceed 4.4% of GDP. On 1 December, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced that an agreement had been reached for an ADB-related project that seeks to expand economic corridor networks in the Mekong region. The USD 32.7 billion project will improve connectivity between the region’s capitals, which will likely boost Laos’ economy.
