GDP in Honduras
Honduras - GDPAfter roaring through 2016 year-end, all signs point to an economy that kept up the brisk pace through Q1. Improvement in economic activity, as measured by the IMAE, was broad-based and accelerated for an eighth consecutive month in February, while goods exports expanded by nearly a quarter in the first two months of 2017—largely due to a bumper coffee harvest. For their part, imports rose as a result of higher global energy prices, though the latter’s negative effect on private consumption early this year should be mitigated by a double-digit increase in remittances. Uncertainty over how much longer remittances will flow freely from the Unites States persists, however, given recent Republican proposals in the U.S. Congress to tax remittances being sent south of the border.
