Cobalt prices averaged USD 33,314 per metric ton in April, up 5.6% from March. On 30 April, the commodity traded at USD 33,258 per metric ton, down 1.0% from 31 March.
Prices gained further ground in April after top producer DRC announced a four-month ban on cobalt exports in February. Still, Chinese miner CMOC—the world’s largest cobalt miner—hiked production by over 20% in Q1 at its mines in the DRC despite being unable to export, as it awaited the eventual lifting of the ban.
