Inflation accelerates in August from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices increased 1.9% on a year-on-year basis in August, following a 1.6% increase in the prior month. Relative to the previous month's figures, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+5.1% yoy vs +4.7% in July) and transportation (-2.4% vs -2.7% in July). In contrast, there were milder price pressures for recreation (+2.0% vs +2.3% in July) and restaurants and hotels (+2.6% vs +2.7% in July). Finally, the change in housing and utilities prices was the same as in the prior month (+2.9% in August and July). Meanwhile, consumer prices were up 1.9% in August, following a 1.7% rise in the previous month. Finally, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.41% in August in month-on-month terms, following a 0.16% rise in the prior month.
