Inflation edges down in June

Consumer prices fell 0.2% in June, contrasting May’s 0.2 increase and marking the first contraction since December 2018.

A breakdown of the sub-components provided by Statistics Lithuania showed that 7 of the total 12 saw a fall in prices, led by clothing and footwear, utilities, and communications, which more than offset higher prices for recreation and culture, and miscellaneous goods and services.

Meanwhile, inflation moderated to 2.5% in June, from 2.7% in May. In a similar fashion, harmonized inflation ticked down from 2.5% in May to 2.4% in June. Lastly, annual average inflation remained stable at 2.4%, where it has been since February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to average 2.3% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2020, the panel sees inflation at 2.4%.
