Latest reading: Economic sentiment was stable at July’s 103.2 in August. The latest reading was above the long-term average of 100, pointing to a positive near-term outlook for the economy.
In August, sentiment brightened in the construction sector (-3.4 vs -5.5 in July) and among consumers (+2.4 vs +1.1 in July). However, sentiment darkened in the industrial sector (-8.2 vs -7.9 in July), the services sector (+12.0 vs +12.9 in July) and the retail sector (+1.0 vs +3.5 in July).
