Inflation falls to seven-month low in September

Consumer prices jump 0.9% month-on-month in September, contrasting August’s 0.4% contraction and marking the first increase in four months and the strongest one since March.

A breakdown of the sub-components provided by Statistics Lithuania showed that September´s upturn was chiefly lead by soaring prices for clothing and footwear, and considerably higher prices for education which more than offset lower prices for recreation and culture, and transport.

Meanwhile, inflation fell to a seven-month low of 2.2% in September, from 2.6% in August. Meanwhile, annual average inflation inched down from 2.5% in August to 2.4% in September. Lastly, harmonized inflation fell from 2.5% in August to 2.0% in September.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to average 2.4% in 2019, up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. In 2020, the panel sees inflation stable at 2.4%, unchanged from last month’s forecast.
