Harmonized inflation rises in May
Harmonized inflation rose to 6.8% in May, above April’s 5.8%. The reading was largely due to a smaller decline in housing prices, higher price pressures for clothing and footwear, as well as rebound in communication prices.
The trend pointed down, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 10.4% in May (April: 10.7%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation rose to 6.1% in May, from April’s 5.2%.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.19% over the previous month in May, below the 1.59% increase recorded in April. May’s result marked the weakest reading since January.
