Latest reading: Economic sentiment declined to 102.8 in August, following July’s 102.9. The latest reading was above the long-term average of 100, pointing to a positive near-term outlook for the economy.
In August, sentiment darkened in the construction sector (+15.6 vs +17.3 in July), the retail sector (+5.9 vs +9.2 in July) and among consumers (-16.8 vs -15.9 in July). However, sentiment improved in the industrial sector (+2.9 vs +2.2 in July) and the services sector (+4.2 vs +4.1 in July).
