Inflation picks up in August from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 4.9% on a year-on-year basis in August, following a 4.4% rise in the previous month. Relative to the prior month's figures, there were higher price pressures for food (+3.8% in annual terms vs +3.6% in July), transportation (+6.1% vs +1.8% in July) and education (+10.6% vs +10.3% in July). In contrast, price pressures reduced for housing and construction materials in August (+5.3% vs +5.4% in July). Finally, consumer prices rose 0.47% in August in month-on-month terms, following a 0.12% decline in the prior month.
