Malaysia: Merchandise trade surplus widens in May
Latest reading: In May, the trade balance was USD +10.2 billion, following a USD +7.4 billion figure in the previous month. Over the last 12 months, the trade balance summed to USD +59.2 billion.
Merchandise exports rose 56.9% in year-on-year terms in May, coming on the back of a 52.4% rise in the previous month. May’s reading was the strongest since April 2021. Merchandise imports increased 23.2% in annual terms in May, following 33.2% growth in the previous month.
