Japan: Merchandise exports accelerate in May from the prior month
Latest reading: In May, the trade balance was JPY -0.4 trillion, down from the prior month’s JPY +0.3 trillion. Over the last 12 months, the trade balance summed to JPY -1.1 trillion.
Yen-denominated exports were up 16.8% in year-on-year terms in April, up from April’s 14.8% expansion.
Finally, yen-denominated imports rose 12.5% year-on-year in April, up from April’s 9.9% increase.
