Poland: Retail sales accelerate in May
Latest reading: Retail sales were up 3.0% on a year-on-year basis in May, following a 1.2% increase in the previous month.
Relative to the prior month’s data, readings in May improved for motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts (+2.1% on a year-on-year basis vs +0.8% in April), textiles, clothing and footwear (+3.8% vs -9.5% in April), furniture, radio, TV and household appliances (+4.5% vs +1.0% in April) and food, beverages and tobacco (-2.8% vs -5.8% in April). In contrast, the reading for fuel worsened in May (+9.9% vs +25.6% in April).
In seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms, retail sales were up 0.4% in May, following a 2.8% decline in the prior month.
