Inflation rises in May from April
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 2.2% in annual terms in May, following a 1.7% increase in the previous month. May's reading was the strongest since March 2025. Relative to the prior month's data, there were higher price pressures for food (+1.4% in annual terms vs +0.6% in April), transportation (+4.0% vs +2.7% in April) and education and entertainment (+3.0% vs +2.4% in April). Finally, the variation in housing prices was the same as in the prior month (+2.1% in May and April). Finally, consumer prices were up 0.19% in May on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.78% increase in the prior month.
