Switzerland: Retail sales speed up in May
Latest reading: Retail sales rose 0.5% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in May, following a 0.2% rise in the prior month.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, the reading for automotive fuel improved in May (-1.9% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs -4.0% in April). In contrast, readings worsened for food, beverages, and tobacco (+0.3% vs +0.6% in April) and household equipment (-1.5% vs +2.7% in April).
In calendar-adjusted year-on-year terms, retail sales were up 3.5% in May, following a 1.7% increase in the prior month.
