Latest reading: Economic sentiment fell to 104.0 in August, following July’s 104.3. The latest reading was above the long-term average of 100, pointing to a positive near-term outlook for the economy.
In August, sentiment darkened in the industrial sector (+5.4 vs +5.8 in July), the construction sector (-14.1 vs -12.8 in July) and among consumers (-2.9 vs -1.9 in July). In contrast, sentiment improved in the services sector (+25.6 vs +25.3 in July) and the retail sector (+31.8 vs +30.4 in July).
