Latest reading: Economic sentiment declined to 92.6 in August, following July’s 92.8. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
In August, sentiment worsened in among consumers (-32.6 vs -30.1 in July). In contrast, sentiment turned more upbeat in the industrial sector (-2.5 vs -2.8 in July), the construction sector (-11.1 vs -11.2 in July), the services sector (-1.8 vs -2.1 in July) and the retail sector (+0.4 vs -1.9 in July).
