South Africa: Manufacturing production slows in June
Latest reading: Manufacturing production was up 0.9% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in June, following a 1.0% increase in the prior month.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, readings in June worsened for petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-0.9% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs +3.5% in May) and food and beverages (-0.5% vs -0.2% in May). In contrast, readings improved for basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (+2.6% vs +2.0% in May) and wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (+1.7% vs -1.9% in May).
On a year-on-year basis, manufacturing output was down 1.7% in June, following a 4.4% decline in the prior month.
