Brazil: Inflation slows in July from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 4.4% on a year-on-year basis in July, following a 4.6% rise in the previous month.
Relative to the prior month’s data, there were reduced price pressures for transportation (+3.7% in annual terms vs +4.0% in June), food and beverages (+3.4% vs +3.8% in June) and clothing (+3.9% vs +4.0% in June). Finally, the changes in education and housing and utilities were the same as in the prior month (+6.3% and +5.9%, respectively).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices rose 4.5% on a year-on-year basis in July, following a 4.6% increase in the previous month.
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.07% in July on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.16% rise in the prior month.
