Portugal: Consumer sentiment improves, economic climate ebbs in January
Consumer confidence improved to minus 17.7 in January, up from minus 19.2 in December. January’s result came amid a significant improvement in household’s views regarding both the general economic situation and major purchases in the coming 12 months. That said, consumers’ view on their past financial situation deteriorated markedly.
Meanwhile, the three-month moving average of the economic climate indicator clocked in at 1.9 in January, marginally down from December’s 2.1. Looking at the details, sentiment among firms in the services sector deteriorated markedly. Contrastingly, the construction, manufacturing and trade sectors all improved in the month.
