Malaysia: Industrial production accelerates in May
Latest reading: Industrial production was up 8.4% on a year-on-year basis in May, following a 8.2% rise in the previous month. May’s reading was the strongest since September 2022.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, the reading for mining and quarrying improved in May (+19.8% on a year-on-year basis vs +6.8% in April). In contrast, readings softened for manufacturing (+6.6% vs +8.3% in April) and electricity and gas (+4.2% vs +10.5% in April).
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production was down 0.4% in May, following a 5.5% increase in the previous month.
