Kenya: Inflation matches July’s rate in August
Consumer prices increased a seasonally-adjusted 0.23% in August over the previous month, a smaller increase than the upward revised 0.29% increase seen in July (previously reported 0.20%). Looking at the details of the release, August’s outturn was chiefly driven by a softer increase in prices for housing, utilities and fuel. Meanwhile, prices for transportation declined over the prior month.
Inflation came in at 6.6% in August, matching July’s result. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 5.7% in August (July: 5.5%).
