Italy: Inflation inches up in August
Consumer prices increased 0.4% month-on-month in August (previously reported: +0.5% month-on-month), following July’s flat reading, according to revised data released by the National Statistical Institute (ISTAT) on 16 September. The figure reflected higher prices for services related to communication, transport, and recreation and culture, influenced by seasonal factors. Meanwhile, inflation came in at 0.4% in August (previously reported: 0.5%), matching July’s reading, which had marked the lowest reading since April 2018.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, rose 0.6% from the previous month in August, following July’s 0.3% increase. Meanwhile, core inflation inched up from July’s 0.5% to 0.6%, while harmonized inflation rose to 0.5% from July’s 0.3%.
