Ghana: Inflation edges down in December

Consumer prices rose 0.3% in December, slowing from November’s 0.7% increase which had marked the highest reading since June. The reading largely reflected lower prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages offset by higher prices for housing and utilities, transport and education.

Inflation edged down to 7.9% in December, from a four-month high of 8.2% in November. As a result, it placed just below the midpoint of the Central Bank’s 6.0%–10.0% target band. Meanwhile, average annual inflation ticked down to a near six-year low of 8.5% in December, from 8.7% in the previous month.
