Germany: Economic sentiment rises in May
Latest reading: Economic sentiment rose to 89.7 in May, following April’s 88.7. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
In May, sentiment improved in the services sector (+1.7 vs -1.3 in April) and among consumers (-16.1 vs -17.7 in April). On the flipside, sentiment darkened in the industrial sector (-15.6 vs -14.6 in April) and the construction sector (-13.2 vs -12.4 in April). Sentiment in the retail sector was stable from the prior month at -31.4.
