Latest reading: Economic sentiment went up to 90.4 in May, following April’s 88.4. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
In May, sentiment improved in the industrial sector (-11.6 vs -12.4 in April) and among consumers (-20.3 vs -24.1 in April). In contrast, sentiment darkened in the construction sector (-23.9 vs -23.6 in April), the services sector (+0.5 vs +0.9 in April) and the retail sector (-8.1 vs -5.6 in April).
