Inflation decreases in January
Inflation came in at 6.5% in January, down from December’s 7.6%. January's result represented the lowest inflation rate since September 2021. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages grew at a more moderate pace in January. In contrast, prices for transportation increased at a faster pace. Accordingly, the trend pointed down, with annual average inflation coming in at 11.6% in January (December: 12.4%). Meanwhile, core inflation fell to 5.9% in January, from December’s 6.5%. Finally, consumer prices rose 0.30% in January over the previous month, picking up from the 0.15% increase logged in December.
