Inflation accelerates in April from March
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 3.2% on a year-on-year basis in April, following a 2.5% rise in the previous month. April's reading was the strongest since July 2024. Relative to the previous month's figures, there were higher price pressures for food and alcoholic beverages (+3.7% on a year-on-year basis vs +3.4% in March) and housing, electricity, water and fuels (+1.0% vs +0.2% in March). In contrast, price pressures reduced for clothing and footwear in April (+0.6% vs +0.7% in March). Finally, consumer prices rose 0.92% in April on a month-on-month basis, following a 1.03% increase in the previous month.
