Inflation eases in May from April
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 2.9% on a year-on-year basis in May, following a 3.2% increase in the previous month. Relative to the previous month's figures, price pressures reduced for food and alcoholic beverages in May (+2.7% in annual terms vs +3.7% in April). In contrast, price pressures were higher for housing, electricity, water and fuels in May (+1.7% vs +1.0% in April). Finally, the change in clothing and footwear prices was the same as in the prior month (+0.6% in May and April). Lastly, consumer prices declined 0.12% in May on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.92% rise in the prior month.
