United Kingdom: Inflation hits highest level since March in July
Consumer prices rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.45% in July over the previous month, accelerating from the 0.11% rise recorded in June. July’s figure marked the sharpest increase in prices since April 2019. The reading was largely driven by rising prices for recreation and culture. In addition, price pressures for transportation rose.
Inflation increased to 1.0% in July, above June’s 0.6%. July’s reading was the highest inflation rate since March. Annual average inflation fell to 1.3% in July (June: 1.4%). Core inflation rose to 1.8% from the previous month’s 1.4%.
