Taiwan: Inflation comes in at highest level since February 2013 in May

Consumer prices rose 0.26% over the previous month in May, moderating from April’s 0.66% increase. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food rose in May. Meanwhile, transportation prices grew at a weaker pace. In addition, prices for education and entertainment dropped.

Inflation increased to 2.5% in May, above April’s 2.1%. May’s reading marked the highest inflation rate since February 2013. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 0.4% in May (April: 0.1%).
