Spain: Retail sales contract in April
Latest reading: Retail sales declined 1.5% on a working-day and seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in April, following a 1.2% rise in the prior month. April’s reading was the weakest since March 2022.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, readings in April worsened for large chain stores (-0.4% on a working-day and seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs +0.1% in March), single retail stores (-1.3% vs +2.1% in March) and small chain stores (+0.1% vs +2.6% in March).
On a year-on-year basis, retail sales were up 0.8% in April, following a 4.1% increase in the previous month.
